Focus Group Radio started as an online radio platform conceived during the lockdowns. With a spirit similar to pirate radios from the 90s UK, it was created as a sanctuary for music discovery. The idea was simple - an honest exploration around an overarching theme curated by fellow artists, musicians, and the like. FGR was a way to find a community of kindred spirits in real life. Grazing the cultural geography of the world for beautiful music to dance to, nothing brings people together quite like music. We just wanted the weird ones, the ones like us.

Our gig ‘African Music Exploration' dives neck-deep into five decades of under-represented music from the African continent and its Diaspora communities. Expect sounds of the 20th century with Highlife and Afrobeat, Ethiopian Jazz, and Afro disco juxtaposed craftily with contemporary club music like Kuduro from Angola, GQOM from South Africa, Soca from the Caribbean Islands, Singeli from Uganda, and a whole host of other sounds.
