Jay Carder fuses UK techno with a hefty dose of bass, breaks and 4/4. Laden with percussion, her selections are a concoction of heavy leftfield and lighter psychedelic sounds.
It’s not often that someone comes along with this much music, wit and positive energy: but that’s precisely what’s happened in the case of Jay Carder. And don’t just take our word for it: some of the biggest globally-approved DJs are in agreement, from Artwork to Madam X, who are fans of both her music and everyday use of puns.
With 10 years of broadcasting & DJing under her belt, Jay Carder’s unique blend of UK bass, techno and breaks has led to her steady rise over recent years, selling out headline UK shows in 2022, and embarking on her first international tours in 2023. These include a run of 15 shows in India and debut sets in North America for Canada’s Bass Coast and Shambhala Festival.
She played multiple sets at Glastonbury which included a high-energy solo and b2b (with Skream, Plastician, Tasha, Klose One, Harrison & MC Chunky) for the inimitable Sports Banger Mega Rave. With Sports Banger she’s also toured a number of UK festivals including Madruga and Boomtown, where Jay performed another back-to-back for Boiler Room with revered DJ and good friend Madam X. Other notable sets in 2023 include a special 160 set at Fabric, Waterworks festival and a number of shows around the UK supporting Interplanetary Criminal. She also had debut shows at Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Fold (London), Phonox (London) and two shows with Bicep.
A true lover of radio, Jay covers a length and breadth of sounds on air, which she showcases every Monday on Rinse FM alongside the likes of Hessle Audio, Tasha and Hutch. She’s also a regular voice on NTS and Soho Radio, the latter for which her monthly show “House of Carder x Wavlngth”, showcases a unique connection between India and the UK by aligning downtempo chillout mixes from artists in both countries.
Alongside regular radio, Jay co-runs the label Erbium Records with two friends DJ Trieste & graphic designer Oliver Green. Releasing a wide range of sounds across the dance music spectrum, the label is slowly gathering traction in the scene and their forthcoming sixteenth release by Delano is already seeing support on 6Music from Mary Anne Hobbs and throughout the underground music scene.
