From a playful telephone installation that connects festival goers, to a confessional booth for spicy secrets and reflections, or postal services for the future, Compass brings unique experiences and memorable encounters to Magnetic Fields this year, cultivating intimacy with their audiences along with their trademark dollop of fun!
Teleconfusion
Pick up a phone. Dial a stranger. What will unfold... The beginning of a love affair? A riddle to be answered? A glimpse into the mind of another - playful, friendly, macabre… Who will you connect with? Pick up a phone, dial a number, and find out!
Teleconfusion is a playful interactive installation – a network of phones designed to delight, confound and connect, inspired by the Indian STD phone booths. These interactive messaging systems are installed around the festival and invite attendees to be imaginative, cheeky, or just randomly inspired.
Whether you are stepping back into childhood, or the set of a well-loved film, pick up a phone, and lean into the playfulness – and don’t hang up until you are having a real conversation, with a real person, somewhere else in the festival.

Confession Booth
Please leave your confession after the tone.
This year, festival goers will find a confession booth hidden within the festival. A playful intervention around the idea of confessional booths in collaboration with SPIN, a global organisation whose research focuses on the power and politics of secrecy and ignorance.
A place to purge your darkest desires, your sinful secrets, and your turbid thoughts. Walk into the velvet draped booth and confess in full anonymity to a range of odd characters by phone. From the profound to the mundane, nothing is off limits.

Message Board
En route to the Peacock Club you will find the festival Message Board. Here you will be able to message other festival goers. Write a poem, draw and picture, declare your love, make your mark! Be part of the visual legacy of Magnetic Fields 2024.

Take a moment to reflect on the future You. What would you like to tell them? What memory, moment, or piece of knowledge do you want to cast into your future?
Pick a postcard and pen a note to your future self. We’ll mail it to you, just at the moment you forget about its existence. A little bolt from the past, bringing your future self right back to here, now. This palace, this desert, this music, these friends, this moment.
